I’ve been continuing to think about “individual experiences,” and what that even means. I guess it’s really about memories — intentionally creating memorable moments, and mindfully savoring life in a way that makes the everyday more memorable.
I did so much nostalgic scrolling through my camera roll early in the pandemic (you too, right?), revisiting old memories when I couldn’t create enough new ones. But that was a year ago, and while the last twelve months have been nothing if not memorable, I know I need something more. I’ll share a few ideas next week (probably!).
Til then, grab your best headphones (or speaker), take a walk (or stay home), and listen to this song. Sure, you’ve heard it, but listen again. Did you know that Tammi Terrell recorded it in 1968, when she was only 22, after undergoing surgery for brain cancer? She died just a couple of years later. “Hits different,” as the kids say…
Listen again. Listen to it build. Notice your surroundings. You’re making this moment something you’ll remember. Maybe not forever, but for long enough that whenever you walk by that [thing in surroundings you noticed] you feel like you have a secret.
Feels great.
